Idiots Preferred

I had forgotten that
Screen 3
At the Dominion Cinema
Was idiots preferred
Is he going to jail?
Asked the woman behind me
In a whisper the entire cinema could hear
I wonder?
He’s been banging on about being a conscientious objector for 90 minutes
In the last scene he appeared in front of a Military Service Tribunal
And now the Police have him clapped in handcuffs
A stretch in the Jug is a racing certainty
